FADE IN:
INT. BIG ROOM IN ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – SUNRISE
CLOSE ON: a thin ray of sunlight glints through the window, slides across Ilmi’s face disappears. He wants to open his eyes and move, but he can’t. His body does not obey. Ilmi, at times, hears everything that is happening, but then again falls back into oblivion. Near Ilmi are his parents, his younger brothers, and his sister. Also, in the room are neighbors. Mariam, wiping her tears, leans over Ilmi.
MARIAM
(whispered)
Already much much time has passed. His head and chest are hot and his feet are cold. It’s not good! I remember . . . Unus hugs her.
UNUS
Think good thoughts. The sunbeam returns and lingers on Ilmi’s nose. Ilmi smiles and sneezes.
UNUS
(laughing)
He smiles and sneezes! This means he will live!
Ilmi opens his eyes and sees his Mom’s tear-stained eyes directly above.
MARIAM
(crying)
You will live!
Unus smiles and hugs Mariam.
UNUS
Well, we’ve had enough tears. You see . . . Alive! From under the arm of Mariam, Yasira peeks in. She cautiously stretches out her hand and strokes Ilmi’s forehead.
YASIRA
(whispered)
My brother is alive! She turns around and tells everyone loudly. He’s alive! My brother is alive!
People in the room breathe a sigh of relief and start happily whispering. Mariam brings a spoonful of water to Ilmi’s lips and he slowly drinks. He then closes his eyes and falls asleep. Mariam smiles. She wipes her tears and turns to Unus.
MARIAM
(whispered)
I haven’t asked Unus . . . . Tell me, what happened on the Mountain?
And . . . Where did this strange little leather bag on his neck come from?
People around us say that it’s a miracle that our boy is still alive.
UNUS
Don’t cry. Our son is drinking water. That’s good. He just needs time to get stronger. . . .
Don’t take the little leather bag from Ilmi.
(thoughtfully)
I don’t know who gave it to him, but I know he really needs it and that it is very important for
him. . . .
MARIAM
I understand. . . . Your father said the same words. When he saw this strange little leather bag on Ilmi’s neck, he smiled. I asked him, “What can it be?” He said, “If he has it, he needs it.”
Unus nods. He leaves the house and everyone leaves with him. The neighbors quietly greet Unus and Mariam before leaving the big room. Unus, Ilmi’s brothers and sister follow them. Only Mariam remains with Ilmi.
EXT. YARD BY ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – EVENING
Unus stands at the gate and escorts his neighbors who had come to visit his son. He thanks everyone who came to the house for their support of his family.
FATIHA approaches Unus. /Fatiha is a full woman of around thirty-five years. She is the next-door neighbor to Ilmi’s family. She is very kind and emotional. Fatiha raises her two sons alone because her husband died in the Mine one year ago./ Fatiha hands Unus a box.
UNUS
What is it?
FATIHA
It is money. It’s from all of your neighbors.
Ilmi needs a doctor. Take it, dear Unus.
UNUS
No . . . We can manage. I will find the money. You’re need is greater. Your husband died a year ago.
FATIHA
Yes . . . . But my relatives help me. Your family and all the neighbors have always helped me.
Fatiha is silent, then wipes tears from her eyes and says with a smile.
We live together . . . Your joy is my joy. Your pain is my pain. . . . This is money from all our neighbors. We collected it for Ilmi. Please take it.
Unus wants to say something more, but he is too overwhelmed to respond.
FATIHA
Don’t say anything. It is a child’s life . . .
Unus takes the box in one hand and presses his other hand to his chest. He silently nods. Fatiha leaves.
EXT. GATE OF THE YARD, ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – SUNSET
The sun sets over the top of the Mountain. Unus watches the Mountain top again as Golden Palace flashes with gold colors before disappearing. Leaning on a stick, Icram slowly approaches Unus. He puts his hand on Unus’s shoulder.
ICRAM
Everything will be good, Unus.
UNUS
I feel that he is now between Heaven and Earth. Now is the time of choice.
ICRAM
Yes. This is true . . .
UNUS
I am ready to give him all my strength if only he will live.
ICRAM
You have given him everything he needs. He will manage. Icram is silent for a long time. Today, your mother Safa came to me in a dream . . .
This is the first time she has appeared in my dreams. She said it was necessary for Ilmi to go up the
Mountain and that we were not to stop him. And also, she said that we must protect him from the shadow.
UNUS
What does it mean? From what shadow?
ICRAM
I don’t know. That is what she said.
Both are silent as they look at how the last rays of sunlight are extinguished by the top of the Mountain.
A time will come when we will remember that sunset with immense gratitude.
UNUS
Thank you for your wisdom, Father!
ICRAM
It is the wisdom of Life, my son . . .
UNUS
Father . . . I wanted to ask you about . . .
Unus wants to add something else but does not have time. He sees a dark female figure on the road.

ACT ONE
FADE IN:
EXT. ROAD TO ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – EVENING
A small female figure appears on the road to the house. She is a middle-aged woman of small stature and a fragile constitution. Her face is tucked under a kerchief.
EXT. THE GATE OF THE YARD – CONTINUOUS
Icram looks at the road.
ICRAM
Strange . . . Who can it be coming to us so late?
Unus looks attentively at the road.
UNUS
It looks like Abir. You’ve probably heard of her. She appeared in the village two years ago. She lives in the house of Old Ostler. Nobody knows where she came from. . . . Old Ostler was very happy when a woman came to his house. After the death of his wife, he has lived alone for many years.
ICRAM
A woman at home is important. I have never seen her, but I have heard that she appeared after Safa left, right?
UNUS
Yes. It’s strange that she is coming to us. She has never visited before. I know that Mariam does not like her.
ICRAM
Why?
UNUS
Mariam says that Abir can heal people, but she does not do it the way Safa did.
ICRAM
What do you mean?
UNUS
Safa said that in every person there is a great power to be healthy. Mariam says that Abir tells people differently.
Unus looks at the woman walking towards them.
ICRAM
Unus, I will look in on the horse cart for the morning, and you talk to her. Icram leaves. Abir comes to the gate of the house and stops.
ABIR
Good evening! How is the health of little Ilmi?
UNUS
Good evening! Already better.
Abir smiles, looking directly at him, and speaks very quietly and slowly.
ABIR
I know that he has not come to himself yet. I have come to help. I know how . . . .
Unus stands, as if numb. Abir passes by him and enters the house. Unus wants to follow, but cannot. His legs seemed to grow into the ground. Icram approaches him.
ICRAM
The cart is ready for . . . (very worried). What’s wrong with you, Unus?
Icram puts his hand on Unus’s shoulder. Unus seems to come to life. He quickly runs into the house. Icram, feeling an uncomfortable premonition, hurries after him.
INT. THE BIG ROOM IN ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – CONTINUOUS
Ilmi is still asleep on the couch. Mariam touches his forehead.
MARIAM
Hot . . . I’ll bring you a cold towel and fresh water, my dear.
Kissing Ilmi and pulling a blanket over him, Mariam leaves the room. The younger brothers and sister are sleeping in the other room. Abir enters the room, bends over Ilmi, and takes a bundle of grass out from her bag. Unus appears in the doorway.
UNUS
What do you want?
Abir winces then freezes. Unus approaches her and Abir quickly hides the grass behind her back.
UNUS
What do you want?
ABIR
(gently)
I came with kindness, Unus. Why do you not let me help your son? I want to help…
UNUS
Why did you come to our family?
Abir quickly looks around, as if looking for someone invisible: who can help her.
ABIR
Why?
UNUS
I asked you, why have you come to our family?
CLOSE ON: Unus looks into Abir’s eyes. Abir does not blink.
UNUS’S MEMORIES:
SAFA (V.O.)
If you do not see the light in their eyes, then this person’s soul is dark.
PRESENT TIME: Unus takes a step toward Abir.
UNUS
I ask you again. Why did you come? Nobody called for you. Why are you here?
ABIR
(gently)
I know what you do not know. Let me tell you. . . .
UNUS
(comes on it)
Go away!
Abir takes a step back and starts again.
ABIR
Listen to me, Unus . . . I came with kindness, listen . . .
Unus takes another step towards her.
UNUS
Go away!
Abir carefully takes another step back. She looks at the sleeping Ilmi and sees the little leather bag on his neck given to him by grandmother Safa. Abir again gazes at Unus and takes another step back. Leaning towards Ilmi, she reaches out her hand towards the little leather bag on his neck. Abir’s shadow covers Ilmi. Icram appears in the doorway. He holds onto the wall trying to stay on his feet.
ICRAM
Don’t touch him! Take your shadow away from him and go!
While staring at Icram, Abir stealthily tosses the grass onto the floor under the couch with sleeping Ilmi and quickly backs away to the exit.
EXT. THE PORCH OF ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – CONTINUOUS
Abir jumps out onto the porch and faces Mariam. Mariam is holding a wet towel and a jug of cold water. She sees Abir’s malicious face and instantly understands everything.
MARIAM
Out of our house witch! Leave nothing that you brought into our home!
Mariam throws cold water into Abir’s face. Water dripping from her face, Abir squeezes her fists in hatred, ready to pounce on Mariam. Unus appears on the porch.
UNUS
Don’t you dare! Leave with what you brought.
ABIR
(hisses)
It will still be, what should have happened will happen. . . .
INT. INT. BIG ROOM IN ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – CONTINUOUS
Icram, breathing heavily in the room, leans on his stick. He sees the grass under Ilmi’s bed. Icram approaches the couch takes a handkerchief from his pocket and places it over the grass. Icram, leaning heavily on his stick, takes the handkerchief with grass out of the house. Mariam and Unus meet Icram in the doorway. Mariam is angry and wants to say something to Icram. Icram puts his hand on her shoulder.
IСRAM
Everything will be good. I will be back soon.
Icram leaves them at home. Mariam stops in surprise, wanting to say something. But at that moment Ilmi moans. Unus and Mariam rush to him. Ilmi’s face is very pale. His breathing becomes confused and he begins to gag. Mariam drops to her knees next to the couch and puts her head on his chest.
She looks at Unus in desperation.
EXT. ROAD TO OLD OSTLER’S HOUSE – LATE EVENING
The moon throws a cold white light on the road. Icram rides the horse cart to a lonely house on the outskirts of the village. He drives slowly. Next to him is the bundle of grass wrapped in a handkerchief that he had found on the floor of the room. Somewhere in the distance, a dog howls.
EXT. YARD BY OLD OSTLER’S HOUSE – NIGHT
Outside of the Old Ostler’s house, FIRST WOMAN and SECOND WOMAN sit and quietly talk among themselves. They are waiting for Abir to return to the house. /First Woman has around thirty years. She is dressed in dark clothes. Her face is covered. She is short and full. Second Woman also has around thirty years. She is thin and small. She also has dark clothes. Her face is open but her hair is covered with a big head scarf./ First Woman points at the door and whispers.
FIRST WOMAN
You know . . . Usually she is soft and calm. But this evening I hardly recognized her. Her eyes were terrible! I greeted her but she said only. “Wait until I call you!” So, here I sit and wait. Only its so cold. . .
SECOND WOMAN
O-oh . . . I also am feeling cold . . . But it’s always cold at night.
FIRST WOMAN
I’m talking about something else. It is not from the air . . . It is a chill in my heart.
SECOND WOMAN
O-oh . . . I don’t know . . . I came later and I did not see her. But I really need to see her! Where is Old
Ostler?
FIRST WOMAN
He drove the sheep to the Far Pasture. My husband also went with him. I think I’m going to go home . . . What about you?
SECOND WOMAN
O-oh . . . My husband also went to the Far Pasture but I want to see Abir. I need help from her . . .
FIRST WOMAN
Why have you come? Second Woman sighs sadly and reluctantly tells her story.
SECOND WOMAN
O-oh . . . I have a problem in my family . . . It’s difficult to tell . . . This is my first visit to Abir. I heard that other women go to her . . . Someone who wants to know their fate, to give their daughter in marriage or wants a happy marriage for her daughter, or to improve their health. I wanted her help, but somehow I have never visited. . . . Safa said there were no short cuts, everyone needs to create their own life and determine their own destiny. But I just want a chance to solve my problem quickly!
I heard that Abir knows how to do this . . . I heard her recipes really help. Only that they are very expensive . . . But, well . . . I saved some money! I hope it will be enough . . .
FIRST WOMAN
You know . . . I also remember Safa. She was an amazing woman. I remember she told my mother that love and gratitude are the greatest forces on Earth. I was still very young then. . . . Safa always said that creating a family and raising children is happiness and work.
She sighs.
Only I have found that this is so hard to do every day! I also have problems in my family.
I also heard that Abir knows how to fix everything. So I came. You know . . . The women hear the sound of a horse cart on the road and hide behind a bush. Icram approaches the house.
FIRST WOMAN
(whispering) Look! It’s Icram, Safa’s husband!
SECOND WOMAN
O-oh . . . Does he also go to Abir? It’s incredible!
FIRST WOMAN
You know . . . Abir must really be able to help.
SECOND WOMAN
O-oh . . . Maybe it turns out that Safa was wrong . . .
FIRST WOMAN
You know . . . It’s hard to understand . . .
Icram stops for a minute, ties up to the horse post, then opens the door to an unsuspecting Abir.
INT. THE OSTLER’S HOUSE – CONTINUOUS
In the dim room, Abir sits at a table. Her long black hair, like a black cloth, covers her shoulders. On the table are a candle and a mirror. Abir slowly strokes her hair with a black comb and says something, singing the words in a melodious voice. Surprised by Icram, she drops the comb and stiffens.
ABIR
(aggressively)
Why have you come?
Icram places a bunch of dry grass on her table in front of her mirror.
ICRAM
You left this . . . now have it back.
ABIR
(hoarsely)
What?!
ICRAM
What is yours is yours, what is mine is mine. It is so and so it will be!
Abir looks at the grass in horror and backs away.
ABIR
(fearfully)
Take it back! I do not need it!
ICRAM
(strictly)
No. It will stay with you! I told you that yours is yours, and mine is mine. Remember . . . I know not what you know and don’t want to know!
Abir comes to her senses and begins to speak gently.
ABIR
You really do not know . . . But I know . . . The boy was going to die tomorrow morning! So I came to your house tonight . . .
ICRAM
We did not invite you.
ABIR
I am not always called. Sometimes I come without invitation . . . Not everyone knows what I know . . . Your wife Safa also knew . . .
ICRAM
Do not utter the name of Safa. In her heart was love. In your heart is hatred . . . This is your
world and your choice.
Abir screams with pain and hates in her voice.
ABIR
(irately)
How do you know what my world is like?! What do you know about me?!
ICRAM
I only know that there is no love or kindness in your heart. Therefore, you are not welcome in our house!
Icram turns and leaves the house.
EXT. THE YARD OF OLD OSTLER’S HOUSE – CONTINUOUS
Icram climbs back onto the horse cart and heads back down the moon lit road. First and Second women approach the door listening carefully.
FIRST WOMAN
You know . . . I don’t know . . . But I am afraid!
SECOND WOMAN
O-oh . . . I am too . . .
FIRST WOMAN
So! You know . . . I guess I’ll go!
SECOND WOMAN
O-oh . . . I will wait . . .
First Woman goes to open the door. At that moment, both women hear a wild scream, like a wolf’s howl. The women freeze at the door not knowing what to do. After the scream there is silence, then they hear Abir laughing hysterically.
ABIR
He will die anyway! I will come to your house and your family, Icram! Then you will know who I am!
The women scamper away in fright.

ACT TWO
FADE IN:
INT. BIG ROOM IN ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – NIGHT
In Ilmi’s house, all is quiet. Mariam has fallen asleep next to Ilmi while gently holding his hand. Unus holds Ilmi’s other hand while looking at the flames in the round stone fire stove. Icram enters the room, throws the handkerchief into the fire, and sits down next to Unus.
UNUS
What is it?
ICRAM
That was the handkerchief that I carried that Abir had left under Ilmi’s couch.
UNUS
Mariam was looking, but could not find it. I knew that you followed Abir but I couldn’t follow you, Father. Forgive me . . . After the departure of Abir, Ilmi got worse. I remembered what mother told me. We both took Ilmi’s hands. They were cold at first and then became warm and even hot.
ICRAM
Everything will be good.
Icram puts his hand on his son’s shoulder. He goes to the window and looks out at the starry sky.
EXT. YARD BY ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – EARLY MORNING
A cart enters the courtyard. Unus and the DOCTOR are in the cart. Unus left before dawn to fetch Doctor to examine Ilmi. /Doctor is a lean gray-haired man with glasses and about sixty-five years old./
Icram meets them on the porch of the house. Doctor and Unus pass Icram into the house.
INT. BIG ROOM IN ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – CONTINUOUS
The children are still asleep. Mariam is sitting by the couch next to Ilmi and again holding her son’s hand.
MARIAM
Help, Doctor! He hasn’t eaten anything for so many days!
Sometimes he drinks water when he opens his eyes. But yesterday. . . .
Mariam begins to cry.
DOCTOR
I need to see the boy. Help me. Doctor examines the boy. Ilmi’s younger brothers and sister wake up and come into big room. They stand next to Unus and Icram. Doctor finishes inspecting Ilmi and shrugs his shoulders in surprise.
DOCTOR
I do not know what to say . . . I have been working as a doctor for almost forty years but this has never happened before in my practice. The heart works slowly, but rhythmically. Breathing is even. It’s very good that he drinks water. . . . We can only wait. I hope he will eventually recover. But I can
say nothing more. . . . Only that the fact he is alive is a miracle. . . .
Mariam begins to cry again.
MARIAM
That’s right, Doctor. It is really a miracle! But tell me how long we have to wait!
Every day I . . .
UNUS
Mariam . . .
DOCTOR
I understand that you are a mother. But I
cannot tell you how long to wait.
(pause)
I think that no one knows.
UNUS
Thank you Doctor!
MARIAM
Thank you Doctor! Excuse me . . .
DOCTOR
I understand and I hope that everything will be
fine. Your boy is very strong . . .
Amazingly strong!
MARIAM
He’s really very strong, Doctor.
Mariam goes back to the couch and listens to Ilmi’s breathing. Ilmi breathes
evenly. Mariam sighs, wiping her tears with a hand cloth and leaving the
room with Icram. Amir and Baht follow them.
YASIRA
Can I stay with my brother?
MARIAM
Of course, my dear!
Only Ilmi and his sister Yasira remain in the room.
EXT. YARD BY ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – CONTINUOUS
Everyone greets Doctor. He and Unus leave for the city. Icram slowly closes
the gate behind them. He stops, turns, and looks at the Mountain.
The day is cloudy and the summit of the Mountain is not visible due to the
low clouds.
Fatiha and SALIM have came to find out what news there is from Doctor.
Icram begins talking with them.
/Salim is a very active boy about ten years old. He is Ilmi’s best friend. He is
short of stature and full bodied./
It starts to rain.
INT. BIG ROOM IN ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – CONTINUOUS
CLOSE ON: Yasira pushes a chair to the window, climbs onto it and starts to
trace with her finger the droplets of rain as they slide down the glass.
Ilmi opens his eyes, looks around and sees his sister. He raises his head
wanting to say something, but he lacks the strength. Ilmi reaches out for the
glass of water placed on the small table near the couch.
The glass of water drops from the small table onto the floor. Yasira hears the
glass as it lands on the floor. Jumping off the chair, she runs to Ilmi only to
see his white face and hear his intermittent breathing. She yells loudly.
YASIRA
Ilmi . . . Ilmi! Mom!
Mariam runs into the room. Amir and Baht follow her.
INT. YARD BY ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – MORNING
Icram, Fatiha, and Salim hear Yasira crying out. Fatiha runs into the house
while Salim helps Icram as they follow her.
INT. BIG ROOM IN ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – CONTINUOUS
Mariam sees Ilmi’s pale face, kneels again and, placing her ear over his chest,
listens to Ilmi’s heart.
MARIAM
(shouts)
Ilmi is dying!
Ilmi isn’t breathing. Fatiha arrives and stands near and quietly cries. Amir,
Baht, and Yasira are huddled together in fright.
Icram and Salim enter. Icram is breathing heavily from the exertion. He
kneels beside Mariam and takes Ilmi’s hands in his hands. Icram looks at
Mariam’s hand and then at Ilmi’s feet. Mariam guesses Icram’s purpose and
takes Ilmi’s feet in her hands.
Icram begins to sing. He sings an old song. Mariam looks at him in
amazement. Icram nods and she starts singing. Fatiha whispers in
astonishment.
FATIHA
(whispered)
It’s the song honoring the birth of a child . . .
Fatiha goes to the window, opens it and also begins to sing. Salim and Ilmi’s
younger brothers and sister also begin to sing as they approach the window.
The song’s compelling sound is carried throughout the neighborhood. People
in the village, hearing this song, rush to the house of Ilmi’s family. They stop
under the window and also start singing.
EXT. ROCK SCALE OF THE MOUNTAIN – WITHOUT TIME
There is white fog all around. Ilmi stands on the edge of the cliff, hugging
the Tree with his arms. Around him, white clouds slowly float in the fog.
Ilmi extends an arm and stretches out a hand wanting to touch the edge of
the cloud. But it floats away just beyond his grasp.
Ilmi leans forward to catch the next cloud and hears behind him a gentle
ringing and the voice of his grandmother, Safa.
SAFA (V.O)
Ilmi, dear, do you still want to catch a cloud
and ride it?
ILMI (V.O)
Grandma!
You’re here again!
He looks around and laughs joyfully.
ILMI
Yes! I want to fly high and rise with a cloud to
the very top of the Mountain.
SAFA (V.O)
(laughing)
To Golden Palace?
ILMI
Of course! If I sit on this cloud, I will climb
faster and find my Golden Palace.
(laughing)
It’s so simple!
I just need to catch a cloud!
SAFA (V.O)
There is no easy Way to the Palace.
ILMI
Like this?
SAFA (V.O)
There is only the Way that you must find for
yourself.
ILMI
But it is so much quicker to fly on a cloud . . .
SAFA (V.O)
Your Way is difficult to measure by time and
distance . . .
It will not be easy.
(laughing)
But you said you wanted to find your Way to
the Palace.
Ilmi is silent. He thinks on Grandma’s words for long time.
ILMI
Grandma, I really want to find my Palace . . .
I really want . . .
SAFA (V.O)
Then you must find your Way.
ILMI
Can I stay with you and go further up the
Mountain?
SAFA (V.O)
No, my dear.
ILMI
Why? I just got up here! Why can’t I go further
up from here?! It’s not fair!
SAFA (V.O)
To go your Way and find Golden Palace, you
need to live on Earth.
ILMI
Where are we now?
SAFA (V.O)
This is another place.
You will understand everything in time.
And now . . .
Do you hear?
Your name is . . .
Come back!
Ilmi listens.
ILMI (O.S.)
(whispers)
Grandpa . . . Mommy . . .
He listens. The song becomes louder.
ILMI (O.S.)
(joyfully)
Yasira, Amir, Baht . . . and Salim sings . . .
Grandma, he has such a wonderful voice . . .
And is that his mother . . .
SAFA (V.O)
Yes it is them, and many more of your
neighbors. Do you hear? They call you . . .
Ilmi holds the Tree trunk more firmly and leans down.
ILMI (O.S.)
Grandma!
(whispers)
I know this song!
It is sung when a child is born . . .
SAFA (V.O)
This is a very old song and everyone knows it,
adults and children.
This is the song of life, Ilmi.
Dear, it’s time for you to go to your home.
Ilmi also begins to sing. At first he sings softly, and then louder.
INT. BIG ROOM IN ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – MORNING
Ilmi sighs, then begins to breathe smoothly and calmly.
A quiet joyful whisper spreads through the room “Look . . . Look . . . He’s
back!”
Ilmi starts to move his lips. Mariam listens.
MARIAM
He sings . . . Hear it . . .
(whispers)
Ilmi is singing!
Yasira lunges out the window.
YASIRA
(joyfully)
Listen!
My brother sings with us!
My brother is alive!
Icram, Mariam, the neighbors, younger brothers and sister joyfully smile and
continue to sing.
Ilmi opens his eyes. He continues to breathe more evenly and deeply. His
face turns from gaunt white to pink.
Mariam sees the changes and smiles happily.
MARIAM
(crying joyfully)
He is back . . .
Icram looks at her, at Ilmi, smiles, and nods his head.
Everyone keeps singing.

FADE IN:
EXT. HILL NEAR ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – SUNSET
The sun is setting. Ilmi stands and looks at the top of the Mountain. The
beautiful contours of the Mountain summit are still visible in the sky.
INTER CUT BETWEEN: EXT. YARD BY ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE –
CONTINUOUS
Some weeks later. Icram and Unus stand on the porch and look at the small
figure in the distance. It is Ilmi. He stands on a hill, near the house, and
stares at the top of the Mountain.
UNUS
Every day he looks at the top of the Mountain
as the sun sets.
Mariam is worried . . .
I tried to talk to her, but she doesn’t hear.
(pause)
She says that she is afraid for him.
ICRAM
I will talk to her and you go meet with him.
(pause)
You have an amazing son, Unus . . .
UNUS
And you have an amazing grandson!
They both are laughing. Icram goes into the house while Unus goes to Ilmi.
INTER CUT BETWEEN: EXT. THE HILL – CONTINUOUS
CLOSE ON: Ilmi looks at the Mountain and whispers.
ILMI
It is my Golden Palace and I will be there . . .
Unus goes to Ilmi. Ilmi doesn’t hear him. Unus hugs Ilmi’s shoulders.
UNUS
Of course! You will, my son!
I believe you will find your Way to Golden
Palace . . .
Ilmi, this is Way of Ruler.
ILMI
Do you also know about Ruler?!
UNUS
Yes . . .
ILMI
I remembered today that my Grandpa had
begun to tell a fairy tale about Golden Palace
and Way of Ruler.
I want to ask him what happens next.
UNUS
Yes. But I think that you will have your own
story, son . . .
They stand silently and watch the first stars appear in the sky.
INT. GRANDFATHER ICRAM’S ROOM – EVENING
Icram sits on the couch next to Mariam. Mariam is crying.
MARIAM
But . . . I’m just afraid for him . . .
He finally got up and started to walk. But it
took such a long time.
He has only just begun to recall everything
that happened before his trip to the Mountain!
And now he wants to go back again?!
ICRAM
This is his Way, Mariam . . .
~ 113 ~
MARIAM
What?! Way?!
He is too small to climb so high!
You know it’s deadly!
We all know how his first attempt ended.
ICRAM
We know . . . But it was not just an attempt.
Ilmi is now different . . . Don’t you see that?
MARIAM
I see . . . Of course I see!
How can I not see that he goes to his hill
every evening and looks at the top of the
Mountain?!
It has been only a few months since he began
to walk . . .
Mariam brings her hands to her face and starts crying.
MARIAM
And now, this morning he told me that he
wants to again go to the Mountain!
ICRAM
How did you respond to him?
MARIAM
How? How?!
I won’t let him go, of course!
I’m afraid for him! It is very dangerous and he
might die this time.
ICRAM
Mariam, I understand . . .
You’re his mother. But tell me, how can he
grow as an eagle, if you keep him in a cage?
MARIAM
Why do you ask this question?
I’m his mother!
I know what’s best for my son, I am . . .
Icram raises his hand.
ICRAM
Wait woman . . .
I asked you like a mother. What do you want
for your son?
Do you want him to stay near your feet and
never grow to be an eagle?
Do you want him to grow and become a
chicken?
Woman! Remember . . . He’s a man. Do not
prevent him from becoming a Man!
MARIAM
Yes, I am a woman . . . But I am also his
mother, and I am afraid for him!
I love him!
ICRAM
(strictly)
If a woman loves, she is never afraid!
If a mother loves her children, she is never
afraid!
If my Safa was afraid for me . . . I would not
now be living on Earth . . . And we would
never have raised such a son as Unus, who is
your husband and father of your children.
Icram is silent for a while, then continues to speak.
ICRAM
Ilmi is ready to think not only about himself,
but about others and wants peace and happiness
for all people.
I’ll talk to him so that he always warns his
loved ones before going to Mountain. But don’t
prevent him . . .
If your fear interferes with his Way, you will
break his strength.
This is the strength that will be needed for
him to pass all the tests he will be confronted
with.
Give him your faith, hope, and love.
It takes a strong, wise and loving mother, like
you, to give him the necessary strength.
(pause)
Fear always cuts eagle wings . . .
Only hope and love can grow and
develop eagle’s wings.
(pause)
Do you remember what you told me about your
dream as you were carrying Ilmi before he was
born?
Remember it more often . . .
Icram stands up and moves closer to Mariam. He gently strokes her on the
head.
ICRAM
You are a wonderful wife and a wonderful
mother . . .
Let your child grow . . .
INT. DINNING ROOM IN ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – CONTINUOUS
The whole family, including Icram, sits at the table.
ICRAM
Ilmi, you’ve finished!
You have a wonderful appetite!
Ilmi smiles and continues to eat.
ILMI
I want to be strong!
UNUS
It’s good! Ilmi will be as strong as a leopard!
The younger brothers and sister begin to giggle. Mariam looks strictly at
them and they become silent.
ILMI
Father, why a leopard?
UNUS
A leopard is very handsome, smart and strong.
ILMI
Have you ever seen one?
~ ————— Episode 3. Meetings ————— ~
~ 116 ~
~ ——— Golden Palace, Way of Ruler ——— ~
UNUS
No. I have only heard about them. Leopards
don’t like to meet people.
ILMI
Why?
He is so strong!
Why are leopards afraid of people?
UNUS
Leopards are not afraid. I just think they don’t
like people.
ILMI
Why?
ICRAM
Because we just haven’t learned to understand
each other.
ILMI
(sighs)
Sometimes people also don’t understand each
other.
IСRAM
What you mean, Ilmi?
ILMI
Today I asked our Teacher about the different
animals I saw in a picture book.
Our Teacher answered that he had never seen
them and doesn’t know any more than what is
in our school’s picture book.
I asked him, “Why don’t you know more than
what is in the picture book but . . .”
UNUS
But . . . What happened next?
ILMI
(sighs)
Teacher told me “Get out of my class!”
~ 117 ~
UNUS
And what did you do?
ILMI
I went away and read a book outside.
UNUS
Which book?
ILMI
Salim gave me this book this morning before
school.
UNUS
What is this book about?
ILMI
Oh! It is an amazing book! When his father was
alive, he bought this book in the city.
This book was about different places on our
Earth.
I can show you this book! It is amazing . . .
YASIRA
I want to see it too!
AMIR, BAHT
Me too, and me . . .
UNUS
Well! We are now at dinner, but after Ilmi can
show this book to all of you.
ICRAM
(smiling)
Can I see this book too? Please . . .
All the family laughs.
UNUS
By the way, after school tomorrow, vacation
begins.
What would you like to do, Ilmi?
~ ————— Episode 3. Meetings ————— ~
~ 118 ~
~ ——— Golden Palace, Way of Ruler ——— ~
ILMI
I will help you in the orchard.
UNUS
Thank you son. Help will be needed, but a little
later, during the gathering of cotton. But now
there is not much work in the orchard.
(pause)
The young trees have grown stronger and it is
too early to harvest the new crop.
ILMI
(gladly)
Then tomorrow I will go to the top of the
Mountain!
(looks at everyone)
Can I?
There is silence at the table. Younger brothers and Ilmi’s sister look at him in
shock. Mariam’s eyes fill with tears. Icram and Unus look at Mariam.
UNUS
Yes son . . .
Well done that you tell everyone about your
intention.
Ilmi is happy. But he notices his mother’s eyes are full of tears.
ILMI
Mom, I’ll be back! I promise you and everyone!
Mom do not cry . . .
MARIAM
I’m crying because I’m a mother and you have
grown up to quickly . . .
I love you and I believe in you!
Icram and Unus look at Mariam with approval, nodding their heads.
EXT. THE MOUNTAIN – SUNRISE
Ilmi stands at the foot of the Mountain, near the Large White Boulder, and
looks up.
~ 119 ~
ILMI
Hello, Mountain!
I have came back to you . . .
I am stronger this time so I will find my Way
to your top . . .
Ilmi sees the first rays of the rising sun at the top, turns around and admires
the lands beauty.
He then returns his gaze to the Mountain.
I believe I’ll find my Way . . .
However, this time I’ll plan it.
POV: Ilmi begins to look closely at the Mountain sides. A little above the
path leading down to the distant gorge he took last time, he sees barely
noticeable ledges of rock leading upwards like steps.
ILMI
Wow! Why didn’t I see this the last time . . .
He turns to the Mountain.
ILMI
You have shown me the Way . . . Thank you!
EXT. CLIFF OF THE MOUNTAIN – NOON
Ilmi climbs up the Mountain. Taking this route, the rise is much more even.
Finally he climbs to a cliff. He approaches the cliff edge and sees a beautiful
view below.
HIGH WIDE: far down, he sees his village’s orchards. From up where he
stands on the mountainside, everything seems so small.
Ilmi begins to feel dizzy. He pulls back quickly, grasping at the ledge of the
rock. He feels a deep crevice under his hand.
He looks down but doesn’t see anything. But, cocking his ear, he hears
sneezes below.
Putting his hand down the deep crevice he feels something soft, warm and
fluffy stirring under his palm. In surprise, Ilmi jumps aside and almost falls
off the cliff. A big fluffy kitten, with silvery hair, peers out from the crevice.
~ ————— Episode 3. Meetings ————— ~
~ 120 ~
~ ——— Golden Palace, Way of Ruler ——— ~
Kitten hides, then looks out again, before rolling out of the crevice like a
ball and stopping at Ilmi’s feet. Ilmi bends down and gently strokes the soft
silvery hair. Kitten’s blue eyes carefully consider Ilmi.
ILMI
Wow . . . Who are you?
Ilmi sits down and caresses Kitten.
You are so small . . . Where is your Daddy and
Mommy?
He bends over to Kitten who licks his face, hands, and neck with his tongue.
Ilmi laughs loudly.
Oh! Well, enough!
You’re tickling me!
Oh, watch out for the ledge . . .
They play together. Kitten continues to lick Ilmi with his tongue and Ilmi
affectionately embraces Kitten and lowers his face into its fur.
White Eagle circles in the sky above.
Ilmi talks with Kitten.
ILMI
I don’t know your name. And you won’t tell
me . . .
Well! What do you think about . . .
Kitten?
Kitten begins to lick Ilmi’s nose. Ilmi laughs.
ILMI
Wonderful!
Your name is Kitten!
You are my friend and I am your friend! Ok?
Kitten licks Ilmi’s nose again.
ILMI
Look! It’s White Eagle . . . He can fly . . .
(thoughtfully)
If I were an eagle, I could easily climb to the
very top of this Mountain.
~ 121 ~
Ilmi and Kitten sit on the edge of the ledge and look down at the road where
shepherds are going with their sheep to the Far Pasture.
ILMI
These are people . . .
And I am also one of them . . .
Who are you?
Behind him there is a terrible growl. Ilmi flinches, turns around and sees a
huge Silver Leopard.
CLOSE ON: light gray, almost white hair flashes silver in the sun. Silver
Leopard freezes. Only a quiet growl, and tightly pressed ears, speak of the
tension that is building up in him. Yellow eyes, unblinking, look at Ilmi.
CLOSE ON: Ilmi looks at Silver Leopard with surprise, but without fear.
ILMI
(whispering)
You are Silver Leopard . . . I saw you in a book
yesterday . . . It is amazing . . .
Kitten slips out of Ilmi’s hands, runs up to Silver Leopard and licks his nose.
The huge Silver Leopard sneezes.
Kitten returns to Ilmi and begins to lick his nose again. Ilmi sneezes too. Ilmi
starts to laugh.
CLOSE ON: Silver Leopard looks at Ilmi warily, but no longer growls. He
stalks closer and starts sniffing him. Ilmi smells like his baby. Silver Leopard
leans to Ilmi’s face and looks into Ilmi’s eyes and Ilmi looks back at Silver
Leopard.
ILMI
You are so beautiful! And your eyes are like the
sun. They are so bright and yellow . . .
I know, you can speak, only I need to learn to
understand you!
I want to understand you . . .
Kitten again licks the Silver Leopard and Ilmi. Ilmi laughs again, reaches out
and strokes the huge Silver Leopard.
Silver Leopard at first backs away, but stops as Ilmi continues to stroke him.
~ ————— Episode 3. Meetings ————— ~
~ 122 ~
~ ——— Golden Palace, Way of Ruler ——— ~
Kitten settles between them and they all look down at the shepherds
walking along the road with their flock of sheep.
ILMI
Beautiful . . . This is your home.
You know . . .
I also have a home . . .
I live down there and you live up here.
I want to go higher, to the very top of the
Mountain.
(pause)
I need to find my Way to Golden Palace!
Today I climbed very high and it was much
easier for me than the first time I tried.
I want to go on but I have to go home today.
(pause)
I know my Mom is worried.
She’s a woman and she can cry. My Dad and
Grandpa do not cry because they are men.
Ilmi looks into Leopard’s eyes carefully for a long time.
Tell me Silver Leopard, do you worry about
your children? Do you also cry?
Silver Leopard stares back at Ilmi for a long time. Then he sits closer and
licks Ilmi’s nose. Ilmi laughs.
ILMI
Oh thank you! But your tongue is a little rough . . .
Ilmi hugs the neck of the Silver Leopard with his arms and drops his face
into his fur. He again looks at the Silver Leopard.
ILMI
In your eyes there is so much strength, but
there is also sadness. Why?
You live in such a wonderful place. Why
is there sadness in your eyes? Where are the
other Silver Leopards? Where is Kitten’s Mom?
Kitten jumps up and licks the face of the Silver Leopard then Ilmi’s.
HIGH WIDE: Ilmi, Silver Leopard, and Kitten sit and look out over the land.
~ 123 ~
ILMI
Your eyes are sad. When I am Ruler, I will
make everyone happy and you too will be happy!
Sitting on the landing they all look out into the distance. Ilmi sighs.
The sun is already high . . .
It’s time for me to go home.
Oh, how can I go down more quickly . . .
CLOSE ON: Silver Leopard looks closely at Ilmi.
Silver Leopard flows to his feet and nudges Ilmi with his nose.
Silver Leopard walks to another big crevice in the rock. Hidden by a large
stone, Ilmi hadn’t noticed this.
However, seeing it, Ilmi follows Silver Leopard. Kitten wants to follow them,
but Silver Leopard growls and stops. Kitten looks at Silver Leopard then at
Ilmi.
ILMI
Wait a minute.
Ilmi comes back, hugs and kisses Kitten in the nose. Kitten sneezes. Ilmi
laughs.
ILMI
You see! He sneezes. I can do it too!
Silently he places his cheek onto Kitten’s fur.
I love you!
Ilmi follows Silver Leopard.
EXT. FOOT OF THE MOUNTAIN – EARLY EVENING
Soon they are at the foot of the Mountain, near the Large White Boulder.
Ilmi looks up and sees White Eagle in the sky. Silver Leopard lightly nuzzles
Ilmi’s head and turns back.
ILMI
Sorry. I know you must go back. Back to your
home . . .
~ ————— Episode 3. Meetings ————— ~
~ 124 ~
~ ——— Golden Palace, Way of Ruler ——— ~
Embracing Silver Leopard by the neck, they look into each other’s eyes.
ILMI
Thank you . . . You know, I understand.
I understand why Kitten doesn’t have a
Mommy . . .
I am so sorry . . .
I love you . . .
EXT. ROAD FROM THE MOUNTAIN – SUNSET
Ilmi is walking along the road. He stops, looks back and sees high on the
rock two figures. It’s Silver Leopard and Kitten. Ilmi waves at them and rans
gaily down the road to his village.
EXT. HILL NEAR ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – CONTINUOUS
Ilmi stops on a hill, near from his house, and looks back at the Mountain. He
again sees the sun setting over the top of the Mountain and sees in its rays
Golden Palace.
ILMI
Golden Palace . . .
The sun hides behind the Mountain top and Ilmi hurries home.
As it’s getting dark, Ilmi doesn’t notice the dark figure of a woman standing
nearby and who is watching him.
Ilmi hears a soft voice behind him. It is Abir.
ABIR
Who were you looking for on the Mountain,
Ilmi?
He shudders in surprise. Ilmi turns around. Abir stands before him.
ABIR
Are you afraid of me?
ILMI
(surprised)
Who are you? I don’t know you.
~ 125 ~
ABIR
(smiling)
I understand . . .
You are so busy . . .
You are always at school, or the orchard, or
on your Mountain.
ILMI
How do you know me?
How do you know about the Mountain?
ABIR
I know a lot . . .
Abir looks into Ilmi’s eyes.
ABIR
Do you want to know your future?
ILMI
What do you mean?
Abir slowly approaches Ilmi, passes her hand along his back while
continuing to look into his eyes.
ABIR
I know a lot . . .
She nods toward the Mountain.
And also about the Mountain . . .
Do you want me to tell you about her life?
Abir smiles and again passes her hand along Ilmi’s back while keeping her
eyes locked to Ilmi’s. Ilmi frowns.
ABIR
What’s wrong?
Why does the little boy frown?
ILMI
(sharply)
I’m not a little boy–
(clearly and firmly)
Each person has his own power.
And he can do all that he wants.

~ ——— Golden Palace, Way of Ruler ——— ~
ABIR
(smiling)
O-o! What words . . .
ILMI
So Grandma Safa spoke.
ABIR
Yes of course!
Grandma Safa . . .
These are wise words. And what do you want
to achieve?
(carefully)
Why do you look every night at the sun as it
sets on top of the Mountain?
Ilmi is silent.
ABIR
(persistently)
Tell me, what does a big, strong, intelligent boy
see when he looks at the top of the Mountain
every night?
ILMI
How do you know that?
ABIR
I told you . . . I know a lot . . .
Ilmi looks at Abir and remembers the words of his grandfather.
ICRAM (V.0.)
If you don’t want to talk, just say so.
Be direct and open. This is your power.
ILMI
I don’t want to tell you!
Abir smiles and continues to look into Ilimi’s eyes.
ABIR
Why do you not want to tell me? Why?
~ 127 ~
Ilmi looks closely into her eyes and abruptly speaks.
ILMI
Your eyes are so dark . . .
There is no light in them . . .
Why?
Abir is furious. She smiles, but her eyes are full of hatred.
ABIR
What?! O-oh . . .
You’re too young to say such words.
Yes, you still . . .
Abir doesn’t have time to finish speaking.
She sees Salim hurrying towards them. Turning quickly she leaves him and
goes to the depths of the trees.
SALIM
Hey!
Ilmi! What are you doing here, huh?
Ilmi is silent.
SALIM
Hey! Are you okay?
ILMI
Yes . . . I’m okay! I’m going back home!
SALIM
I’ve been looking for you!
I asked your mother about you and she said
that you went to look at the Mountain again.
Ilmi and Salim turn and start walking on the road to the village.
SALIM
Listen, why do you go to see the Mountain
every night, huh?
Salim grabs Ilmi by the hand and drags him along. Ilmi looks around but
Abir has disappeared.

~ ——— Golden Palace, Way of Ruler ——— ~
SALIM
(offended)
You do not want to tell me, do you?
Some friend you are . . .
EXT. ROAD TO ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – EVENING
Ilmi and Salim quickly continue down the road to the village. Far from them
behind the trees, in the shade of a bush, Abir stands and closely watches
Ilmi and Salim.
INTER CUT BETWEEN: EXT. HILL NEAR ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE –
CONTINUOUS
CLOSE ON: Abir stays on the hill. Abir smiles maliciously.
ABIR
Well . . .
I can wait . . .
EXT. ROAD TO ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – CONTINUOUS
ILMI
I’m your friend and will always be your friend.
I just don’t want to speak of it now.
SALIM
Again, it’s hard for me to understand . . .
ILMI
(laughing)
Do you need a translator?
SALIM
Yes . . . No . . .
I don’t need one it! I understand.
When you want, then you will tell me!
Okay?
ILMI
Okay!
~ 129 ~
EXT. GATE OF THE YARD OF ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – CONTINUOUS
Salim and Ilmi stay near the gate.
SALIM
Bye!
Good night for you and your family!
ILNI
And for you too! Bye!
EXT. YARD BY ILMI’S FAMILY HOUSE – CONTINUOUS
Unus is on the porch. Ilmi walks up to him.
ILMI
Good evening, Dad!
(pause)
I’m sorry, I would have been back home earlier
but I was talking with someone.
UNUS
With Salim?
ILMI
No, I did talk with Salim as we walked home
together. He was looking for me.
(pause)
I was talking with a woman.
She was so strange . . .
Unus listen attentively.
UNUS
Tell me more . . .
ILMI
She speaks in a gentle voice, but his eyes are so
cold . . .
You know . . .
She’s so dark . . . And so angry!
Unus nods.

UNUS
This is Abir.
ILMI
Who is Abir?
I have not seen her before.
Where does she live?
UNUS
Abir rarely appears in the village.
She lives in the house of Old Ostler, on the
edge of our village.
Ilmi sits down next to his father and stares at the fire. Unus puts his hand
on Ilmi’s shoulder.
UNUS
(thoughtfully)
There isn’t evil, there is just lack of love.
(pause)
Just as there is no darkness, but a lack of light.
ILMI
Dad, is unhappiness also the lack of happiness?
UNUS
Of course . . .
ILMI
Dad . . .
What does she want from me?
UNUS
It’s hard to say . . .
I don’t know.
(pause)
I only know . . .
Don’t be afraid of her just like you are not
afraid of the dark.
ILMI
(smiling)
I’m not afraid of her!
~ 131 ~
UNUS
(smiling)
Good!
Just remember . . .
What’s not in you, will never touch you.
If you don’t have anger in you, someone else’s
anger will not touch you.
(pause)
What you have inside, you will always have
outside.
Keep your heart clean!
FADE OUT.
